Launched in September 2025, the project, “Say it Strong” aims to build resilience amongst underprivileged women against challenges encountered by them in street spaces. The primary mission of the project is to help these women access real-time safety measures, community advocacy, and bystander training to function safely in the streets of urban and peri-urban areas. Towards this goal, the project intends to employ a step-by-step approach that would focus on training the women in important self-defence techniques, while also providing them the resources to access emergency safety. Hence, one part of the initiative would include providing comprehensive karate workshops to young girls to be used when needed, and this would be complemented by online video series that would throw light on techniques which improve one’s fitness, tackling method, agility, and strength. The target group would also be provided with pocket-size learning resources, available for immediate use when they would need to contact helplines, or assert their rights in public spaces.
On the other front, the initiative would organize a fundraiser whose proceeds would go towards helping non-governmental organizations that are working for the safety of underprivileged women in street spaces. In addition, women would also be provided with the learning resource and training for them to know how to respond when witnessing a scenario of harassment, violence, or threatening behavior in street spaces. The training would also include making them aware of their legal rights as citizens, and how they can work as a community to support each other by timely bystander techniques.
